Radiator Repair and Replacement in Hull

Radiator not heating up? Cold spots across the panel? Or maybe you need a new radiator fitted in a room that’s always cold? HJZ Plumbing handles all radiator work across Hull and East Yorkshire. Henry has 39 years of experience with central heating systems and can diagnose most radiator problems within minutes of arriving.

Radiator Problems We Fix

Radiators can stop working properly for a number of reasons. Some are quick fixes, others point to a bigger issue in the heating system. Here’s what we commonly deal with:

  • Radiator cold at the top which usually means there’s trapped air. A simple bleed will sort it out.
  • Radiator cold at the bottom which is a sign of sludge buildup. This restricts water flow and reduces heat output. A power flush may be needed.
  • Radiator not heating at all while others in the house work fine. Could be a stuck valve, an airlock, or a balancing issue.
  • Leaking radiator from the body, valves, or connections. Depending on where the leak is, we can repair it or replace the radiator.
  • Noisy radiator that bangs, clicks, or gurgles. Usually caused by air in the system, a failing pump, or pipes expanding against floorboards.
  • Radiator valves stuck or seized so you can’t turn the heating on or off in a particular room.

Radiator Replacement and Installation

Sometimes it makes more sense to replace a radiator than keep patching an old one. We fit:

  • Standard panel radiators in single, double, and triple panel styles
  • Towel radiators for bathrooms and en-suites
  • Column radiators for a more traditional look
  • Compact radiators for smaller rooms and tight spaces
  • Additional radiators in rooms that don’t currently have heating (extensions, conservatories, loft conversions)

We’ll also fit or replace thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs) so you can control the temperature in each room individually. This can make a real difference to your heating bills.

Power Flushing

If several radiators are cold at the bottom, or your heating system is slow to warm up, it’s probably full of sludge. A power flush pushes a cleaning solution through the entire system to clear out the buildup and restore proper circulation. Our power flush prices start from £380 and the job usually takes a day. It can make a dramatic difference to how well your heating works, especially in older properties.

Common Questions

My radiator is cold at the bottom. What does that mean?

It means there’s sludge (a mixture of rust and limescale) sitting at the bottom of the radiator, blocking the water flow. Bleeding won’t fix this. The radiator needs flushing, and if the problem is system-wide, a full power flush is the best solution.

Can you add a radiator to a room that doesn’t have one?

Yes. We run new pipework from your existing central heating system and fit the new radiator. This is common for extensions, conservatories, and converted lofts. We’ll check your boiler capacity to make sure it can handle the extra load.
