What Counts as a Plumbing Emergency?
Not every plumbing problem needs an emergency callout. But when water is actively causing damage to your home, or you’ve lost your water supply completely, that’s when you need someone there fast. We treat these situations as genuine emergencies:
- Burst pipes where water is actively leaking and you can’t stop it
- Major leaks from cylinders, tanks, or joints that are causing flooding
- Sewage backups into your property
- Complete loss of water supply to the house
- No heating or hot water for vulnerable people (elderly, young children, or those with health conditions)
- Overflowing cisterns or tanks that won’t stop running
If you’re not sure whether your situation counts as an emergency, just give us a call. We’ll talk it through with you and advise on the best course of action. Sometimes a quick bit of guidance over the phone can buy you time until a standard appointment.
What to Do While You Wait
While you’re waiting for us to arrive, there are a few things you can do to limit the damage:
- Turn off your stopcock. This is usually under the kitchen sink or where the mains pipe enters your house. Turn it clockwise to shut off the water supply.
- Turn off the boiler if there’s a heating system leak.
- Open taps to drain the remaining water from the system if a pipe has burst.
- Mop up standing water to prevent it soaking into floors and walls.
- Move valuables and electronics away from the affected area.
Emergency Call-Out Rates
Our emergency rates depend on the time of day:
- Evening (5pm to 10pm): £267/hr + parts
- Overnight (10pm to 8am): £356/hr + parts
- Weekend and Bank Holiday: £287/hr + parts
- During working hours (8am to 5pm weekday): From £178 + parts (standard rate)
Yes, out-of-hours rates are higher. That’s because Henry is on call outside normal working hours and needs to drop everything to get to you. But we’ll always confirm the rate before we head out, so you know what to expect.
A deposit is taken when you book to secure the callout. You’ll receive a Stripe payment link by text, and it only takes a minute. If you cancel with more than 24 hours notice, you get a full refund.

Common Questions
Do you really come out at 3am?
Yes. If you’ve got water pouring through your ceiling or a burst pipe flooding your kitchen, we’ll come out whatever the time. Overnight rates apply (from £356/hr), but we’d rather you called us than tried to fix it yourself and made things worse.
How fast can you get to me?
It depends on where you are and what time it is. During the day in Hull, we can often be with you within the hour. Out-of-hours, it may take a bit longer depending on where we’re coming from. We’ll always give you a realistic ETA on the phone.
What if I smell gas?
That’s not something we can help with. We’re not Gas Safe registered, so we don’t deal with gas leaks or gas appliances. If you can smell gas, open your windows, don’t use any electrical switches, get everyone out of the house, and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 immediately.
