What Is a Power Flush?

Over time, rust, limescale, and other debris build up inside your central heating system. This sludge settles in radiators (making them cold at the bottom), restricts water flow through pipes, and makes your boiler work harder than it needs to. A power flush uses a machine to push a powerful cleaning solution through the entire system at high flow rates, breaking up the sludge and flushing it out.

Signs You Need a Power Flush

• Radiators cold at the bottom but hot at the top
• Some radiators won’t heat up at all even after bleeding
• Heating system takes a long time to warm up
• Boiler keeps cutting out or making banging noises
• Black, dirty water when you bleed a radiator

How It Works

1. We connect the power flush machine to your heating system (usually at a radiator or the boiler circulation point).
2. Cleaning chemicals are pumped through the entire system, loosening sludge, rust, and limescale deposits.
3. Each radiator is flushed individually to make sure the sludge is fully cleared from every part of the system.
4. The dirty water is drained off and replaced with clean water plus an inhibitor chemical that prevents future buildup.
5. The system is tested to make sure all radiators heat up evenly and there are no leaks.

The whole process usually takes a full day for an average-sized home (8 to 10 radiators).

Is a power flush worth it?

If your radiators are cold at the bottom or your heating is sluggish, absolutely. Customers regularly tell us the difference is dramatic. Their heating warms up faster, the house gets warmer, and the system runs much more quietly. It can also reduce energy bills because the boiler doesn’t have to work as hard.

Will a power flush damage my system?

No. The process is designed to clean the system, not damage it. In very old systems with severely corroded pipes, a power flush can occasionally reveal weaknesses that were already there (the sludge was actually plugging tiny leaks). We’ll check the system condition beforehand and let you know if there are any risks.
